Getting To Know Each Other

Rachel and Danny swore they were "bad" at having their photo taken. They claimed that not only do they not like being photographed, but that they were actually "bad" at posing. Steven and I took this as a challenge. We explained that we were there to photograph them, the way they truly are, and not force them to do anything overly posy posy or unnatural. We also explained that the most important part of the session was to get to know each other better so that on the wedding day, we weren't strangers.
Most couples aren't used to being in front of the camera, and our engagement sessions allow us the opportunity to find out a lot - Are they romantic, spontaneous, silly, athletic, reserved? Do they need more instruction, or should be back off with long lenses and let them do what they do naturally?
By the end of the session these two were smiling and interacting almost like we weren't there. If you asked, we think they'd even admit that they had fun. ;) We look forward to their wedding next month at Cafe Panache in Ramsey.
